Paralegals in the UK play a vital role in the legal profession, providing essential support to solicitors and barristers. They engage in a wide range of activities, including researching case law, drafting legal documents, liaising with clients, and managing case files. Paralegals are indispensable partners in the pursuit of justice, adapting to new technologies and procedures, and embracing innovation to enhance efficiency.
Unseen
The dynamic role of paralegals rarely receives national acknowledgement – they do not keep 9 to 5 hours, nor are they tied to a physical office. They are the unseen behind the scenes, providing essential support to solicitors and barristers, and ensuring the smooth operation of legal practices. These dedicated professionals are a cornerstone of legal teams, contributing to the pursuit of justice and the protection of clients’ rights.
Indispensable
Paralegals engage in a wide range of activities that make them indispensable in the legal field. They meticulously research case law, legislation, and regulations, helping to build robust legal arguments and strategies. Their keen eye for detail ensures that documents are flawlessly drafted, from contracts to legal briefs. They liaise with clients, empathetically listening to their concerns, and offering guidance throughout their legal journey.
Legal enthusiasts
Our legal enthusiasts thrive in the art of investigation, meticulously piecing together evidence that can turn the tide in a case. They help to manage case files, schedules, and court deadlines, keeping legal proceedings on track. Paralegals often attend court hearings, supporting barristers and solicitors, and ensuring all necessary documents and exhibits are in order.

Notes
Lydia is a paralegal from Leicester who lives and works from her house boat. She supports overwhelmed and stressed solicitor and barrister clients. Lydia finds balance in her work and is inspired by Erin Brockovich, a legal clerk who became an environmental activist. Lydia also enjoys surprising English people with the fact that there are famous paralegals out there, including Ellen DeGeneres, Patricia Heaton, and Richard Schiff.
